I have a faint, yet strong memory of my dad building kites out of newspaper and wood. I was 5 years old at the time… and I was so enamored by this whole process that my dad would sit me on a chair in the kitchen of our military housing home in Rantoul, IL… the place of my birth. Anyway, it was from that chair I watched great curiosity as my built this flying machine.
Once the kite was completed, my dad would take me out into the back yard… which face a massive field surrounded by other homes like ours. It served as the launching pad for this humble, newspaper kite. I remember being in awe watching the kite rise to the sky and dance upon the winds within that midwest, prairie field.
It was from this place my dad would say… “Ken, you were created to soar. You were created to dance upon the winds… and whatever you want to do in life, you can do it!” Other fave sayings from my dad… “Ken, the only failure is a no try.”
God knows I have fallen on my face so many times… I look back and cringe and at times even cry. Some massive mistakes, while others were beyond my control I dealt with a series of health issues that robbed me of being able to process things correctly. None the less… I am human and so far from perfect. I believe God blessed me with a earthly father who knew that we are human and imperfect, and it was from that place he spoke these words of wisdom.
Though my dad spoke these words into my life… I want to in turn speak them to you as well. You… were created to soar! You were created to dance upon the wind of life and there in nothing you can’t do… the sky is the limit. The only failure is a no try… don’t give up… keep trying and try again, and again… and again! The world needs the gift that God has given you! No earthy word or person can take that away… Just simply… Let It Fly…
